PASSPORTS (AMENDMENT) ACT 2008

AN ACT TO AMEND THE PASSPORTS ACT AND FOR CONNECTED PURPOSES.
ENACTED BY THE PARLIAMENT OF TUVALU

Commencement [1 January 2009]
1 Short title and commencement
(1) This Act may be cited as the Passports (Amendment) Act 2008.
(2) This Act shall come into force on a date appointed by the Minister by notice.
2 Amendment of the Passports Act
The Passports Act (Cap. 79) is amended as follows —
(a) in section 2(a) by deleting the following definitions:
"Investment Passport Committee";
"investor immigrant", "investor spouse" and "investor dependant child";
(b) in section 4(1) by deleting the words "other than an investor immigrant, an investor spouse or an investor dependant child";
(c) by deleting section 7(1A);
(d) in section 9(1) by deleting the words ", an investor immigrant, an investor spouse or an investor child";
(e) by deleting section 10(d);
(f) by deleting section 16A;
(g) in section 17(2) by deleting the words ", an investor immigrant, an investor spouse or an investor child";
(h) in section 26,
(i) by deleting in paragraph (i) of subsection (1) the words ", investor immigrants, investor spouses or investor dependant children";
(ii) by deleting subsection (k) and (l);
(iii) by deleting subsection (2) and re-numbering subsection (1).
3 Amendment of the Immigration Act
Section 7(1) of the Immigration Act (Cap. 77) is amended by deleting subsection (k).
4 Transitional
Notwithstanding the amendments effected by this Act, a Tuvalu Passport issued before the date on which this Act comes into force shall continue to be a valid Tuvalu Passport for the period of its validity unless earlier cancelled under the Passports Act.
