AN ACT TO AMEND THE CITIZENSHIP ACT TO PROVIDE THE CITIZENSHIP COMMITTEE WITH THE AUTHORITY TO GRANT A CITIZENSHIP CERTIFICATE BY NATURALISATION UNDER CERTAIN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Citizenship Amendment Act 2015.

2 Commencement
This Act commences on the date fixed by the Minister.

3 Amendment to section 6

(1) Section 6 of the Citizenship Act is amended by inserting a new subsection (5) after subsection 4 (f) with the following words:

"(5) Nothing in subsection 4 (a) to (f) shall be construed as precluding the Citizenship Committee from granting a citizenship certificate by naturalisation to any person who has worked for Tuvalu:

(a) for the last 7 years immediately preceding his application; and

(b) has worked as an official or representative in a foreign country protecting and promoting the interests of the Government of Tuvalu and its citizens in that country respectively; and

(c) remuneration of such work under subsection (b) has been under the full expenditure of the Government of Tuvalu; and

provided that the Citizenship Committee is satisfied with the evidence lodged by the applicant for inspection and payment of the prescribed fees."

(2) Renumber subsection (5) as subsection (6)
