ADOPTION OF CHILDREN (AMENDMENT) ACT 2013

AN ACT TO AMEND THE ADOPTION OF CHILDREN ACT TO INCREASE THE AGE OF ADOPTION

Commencement 24th December, 2013

1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Adoption of Children (Amendment) Act 2013.

2 Commencement
This Act shall come into effect on the date of publication by exhibition.

3 Amendment to Section 2 of the Adoption of Children Act
Section 2(1) of the Adoption of Children Act is repealed and replaced with the following words:

"(1) This Act provides for the Senior Magistrates Court to grant adoption orders in respect of children under the age of 21 years, by procedures which will be recognised by foreign courts."

4 Amendment to Section 8 of the Adoption of Children Act
Section 8(1) of the Adoption of Children Act is repealed and replaced with the following words:

"(1) Subject to this Act the Court may make an adoption order only where a child has not attained the age of 21 years before the date on which the application for adoption was filed in the Court."
