"9A. GENERAL MANAGER"

2. Appointment of Officers (Amendment of Section 9).

AN ACT

entitled

Harbours Board (Amendment) Act 1996,

Being an Act to amend the Harbours Board Act (Chapter 240),

MADE by the National Parliament.

1. NEW SECTION 9A.

Part II.2 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting before Section 9 the following new section:-

"9A. GENERAL MANAGER.
There shall be a General Manager of the Board who shall -

• (a) be appointed by the National Executive Council, on the recommendation of the Minister, by notice in the National Gazette; and
• (b) be appointed for a period of four years; and
• (c) subject to the Salaries and Conditions Monitoring Committee Act 1988, be appointed on a written contract on such terms and conditions as are determined by the Minister after receiving recommendations from the Board; and
• (d) be the Head of the Service of the Board; and
• (e) have such other duties as the Board determines.".

2. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 9).

Section 9 of the Principal Act is amended -

(a) in Subsection (1), by repealing the words "The Board" and replacing them with the following:-

• "In addition to the General Manager appointed under Section 9A, the Board"; and

(b) by repealing Subsection (2) and replacing it with the following:-

• "(2) The General Manager, Port Managers and other officers of the Board constitute the Service of the Board."; and

(c) in Subsection (5), by repealing the words "under this section" and replacing them with the following:-

• "under Section 9A or this section".
