AN ACT
entitled
Emergency (Workers' Compensation) Act 1984,
Being an Act to as authorized by Part X of the Constitution to ensure that the provisions of the Workers’ Compensation Act 1978 apply to certain persons during the national emergency to be declared in relation to the volcanic eruption expected in the Rabaul area of East New Britain Province during 1984
MADE by the National Parliament to come into operation on the date of the declaration of the national emergency.
(1) In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears –
“controller” means the person appointed as controller under the Emergency (General Powers) Act 1984;
“deputy controller” means a person appointed as a deputy controller under the Emergency (General Powers) Act 1984;
“national emergency” means the national emergency to be declared in relation to the volcanic eruption expected in East New Britain Province during 1984.
(2) Unless the contrary intention appears, the provisions of the Interpretation Act 1975 apply to this Act.
(1) This Act applies to and in relation to the emergency area.
(2) This Act applies notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary.
For the purposes of the Workers’ Compensation Act 1978 it is hereby declared that –
(a) the controller; and
(b) a deputy controller; and
(c) any person authorized or ordered to carry out any work by the Controller, a deputy controller or a person authorized by the controller or a deputy controller,
is a worker within the meaning of “worker” in that Act.
