AN ACT TO AMEND THE PRIVILEGES, IMMUNITIES AND POWERS OF THE MANEABA NI MAUNGATABU ACT 1986

MADE by the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and assented to by the Beretitenti

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Privileges, Immunities and Powers of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu (Amendment) Act 2013.

2. Repealing section 5

Section 5 of the Privileges, Immunities and Powers of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu Act is hereby repealed.

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This short Act repeals section 5 of the Privileges, Immunities and Powers of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu Act 1986 by taking away the immunity of the members, strangers or other persons from civil or criminal proceedings for any act done under the lawful authority of the Maneaba or committee, or for words spoken or used or a document or writing or printing made or produced under the lawful authority of the Maneaba or its committee. This amendment complements the amendment to section 76 of the Constitution, which is the subject of another Bill.
